How do u do the Pepsi and Mentos experiment? I am a daycare teacher and i need a science experiment for the kids and i kinda wanna do that cool rocket thingy with Pepsi and Mentos but i really don't know how to do it! help please!!

xkathryn_marieeex replied: "it's not pepsi, it's coke. basically drop a mentos candy into a 2 liter bottle and watch the explosion!!"

Missy Mystery xx replied: "Make sure that you use DIET COKE, as it has a much better effect then normal coke...or pepsi :P You should jump online to youtube, and type in 'diet coke and mentos' and there are MANY videos you can look at . Heres a really funny one that i love myself: [although probably not recommended for the kiddies, haha so try the MYTHBUSTERS youtube video of diet coke and mentos]"

Will the mentos experiment work with any other cola product besides coke, like for instance, pepsi? has anyone tried any other cola product?

Chanele G replied: "yea it should bubble with pepsi too. They basically mirror eachothers taste, trying to get their recipe as close to Coke as possible. Coke taste better anyway."

Gaila's Random Thoughts replied: "Oh yeah - we tested several brands. Diet coke did the best but any carbonated beverage will work. You can but the cheap store brand on sale and go with that. ... I like diet it is a bit less sticky."

ktray1275 replied: "it will work with any carbonated beverage"

Peter S replied: "Yeah, but it doesn't work as well as it does with diet Coke. It's the chemical reaction between the ingredients in both items that makes it wildly "explosive.""

tekn33k replied: "Mythbusters (a show on Discovery Channel) devoted a whole episode to the mentos reaction. Without going into the science of it, typically, any carbonated drink will work, although diet drinks (cola, 7up, pepsi) will be most effective. Also, if you want an even bigger explosion, use rock salt instead of mentos."

Why coca-cola (coke) or Pepsi drink when mixed with mentos / polo sweet get explose ? Many innocent children seen died due to explosion in their body organ....after having the sweet and soft drink together. Experiment tested when 1 liters coke / pepsi mixed with mentos / polo sweet, immediately get explosion from the bottle !

trouble_906 replied: "Best not to do it then"

allie replied: "Check out mythbusters.com. They'll explain it :D"

ESweetPea replied: "It's only with diet cola, from what I've heard. And if you've heard of kids dying from the explosion...I guess you believed it when they said Pop Rocks and Pepsi mixed together make your head explode. As a matter of fact, I have Pop Rocks and Pepsi with me right now...lemme see here...Pop Rocks in...take a sip of Pepsi...nothing happening...uh..."

This gurl loves to love replied: "i try that and i had ants for a month and everything was sticky! Lol do not again i said do not try it ANTS WILL ATTACK"

kwells2902 replied: "Firstly it has to be diet soda. And it has to do with the coating of the candy . When you drop the Mentos into the soda, the gelatin and gum arabic from the dissolving candy break the surface tension. This disrupts the water mesh, so that it takes less work to expand and form new bubbles. Each Mentos candy has thousands of tiny pits all over the surface. These tiny pits are called nucleation sites - perfect places for carbon dioxide bubbles to form. As soon as the Mentos hit the soda, bubbles form all over the surface of the candy. Couple this with the fact that the Mentos candies are heavy and sink to the bottom of the bottle and you've got a double-whammy. When all this gas is released, it literally pushes all of the liquid up and out of the bottle in an incredible soda blast. You can see a similar effect when cooking potatoes or pasta are lowered into a pot of boiling water. The water will sometimes boil over because organic materials that leach out of the cooking potatoes or pasta disrupt the tight mesh of water molecules at the surface of the water, making it easier for bubbles and foam to form."

rachel =) replied: "i think its when 2 acids or 2 things with carbon in them mix they explode. i am not sure you might want to search it up on google."

[[..dncahfaevah..]] replied: "coz the sweet has a component int which reacts with the fizzy pop most likely to be bi carbonte of soda"

Sinistra replied: "http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbv-7hnngWI this should be enough of a lesson to children why not to combine the two."

Steve replied: "Hi i saw this on myth busters a few months ago .. a strange one but after a lot of time they got the pig gut to explode....I don't know why this happens but i tell you what its best left alone for health reasons...Regards"

Mentos and Pepsi Max ingredients??? help!!? Okay so i am going to be doing a science experiment where i put ten mentos into pepsi max. i keep on researching what are the ingredients in pepsi max, but no site say!!! do u have any idea what? and does it have a lot of caffeine?? please help

PS@Thanks replied: "Do you know what Pepsi symbol mean? If you want to know hola me,"

quasi5 replied: "Pepsi Max is only diet Pepsi - you don't want a regular drink leaving sugar deposits when the drink fountains up . The caffeine has nothing to do with the reaction - the Mentos help release the CO2 that is dissolved in the drink. As to your specific question , the ingredients are listed on the bottle."

Bea Real replied: "Yes, it has caffeine..all cola drinks do.Here's diet Pepsi Max ingredients...CARBONATED WATER, CARAMEL COLOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, ASPARTAME, POTASSIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS), CAFFEINE, NATURAL FLAVORS, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, CITRIC ACID, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), PANAX GINSENG EXTRACT PHENYLKETONURICS: CONTAINS PHENYLALANINE. Pepsi Max (known as Diet Pepsi Max until early 2009), not to be confused with the separate overseas formulation of the same name, is a zero-calorie, sugar-free, carbohydrate-free, ginseng-infused cola, marketed by PepsiCo. It has nearly twice the caffeine of Pepsi's other cola beverages"

Does The Mentos And Coke Experiment Work With...? Me and my lil sis are trying to do the experiment where you put a mentos in the coke an it will practically blow up. But we aren't exactly using what everyone else uses... We are using fruit flavored mentos and a not-name-brand type of coke. Will it still work?? Or do you HAVE to use coke and a regular mentos?? And is it pepsi or coke ur supposed to use?? Thanx! :) Bambi: Do you think that diet gingerale would work?? That's the only diet pop we have in the house! :)

Bambi replied: "Not sure if it'll work with the fruit mentos. But I do know you have to use diet cola. I tried it using regular coke and it didn't work very well. It definitely should be diet. Most experiments use diet coke, but I'd say any diet cola will work. You might not get quite as good a reaction, but why not try it and find out!"

Eliot K replied: "Myth busters (the TV show) looked at this, and found what the above poster wrote: Must be diet soda. Mentos have a surface texture that increases the speed of the reaction. Fruit flavored mentos we designed in the 1940s, before carbonation was discovered (in Bolivia, of all places!). And, since bottling - to preserve the fizz - wasn't invented until 1977 The first bottling plant was in Denmark, not sure, though) the Mento-Coke thing was a miracle long in the making. The two-liter bottle actually is an industrial waste product that the plastics industry foisted on the American people, and has been known to cause limcartic (sp?) finambules in children. The plastic shortage - since most of the plastic went to making plastic explosives in Iraq - may make the 2-liter bottle a rare commodity unless we can get out of of Iraq before 2012. Of course, that's when the world will end, so sell your stamp collection and old Mad magazines now."

Nancy M.i.l.f replied: "diet coke..."

parminderrr_27 replied: "It does not work with fruit mentos because their surface is not the same as the regular mint mentos which have little tiny bumps on their surface. And I've heard diet coke works the best. I would recommend a 2L Diet coke and a pack of regular mint mentos, you can put little holes in the cap to make cool fountain effects. Hope this helps :)"

I'm doing an experiment and I need some help? Which should I do first, feed the cat the mentos or the diet pepsi?

Princess replied: "how about some red bull P"

Spanky replied: "Spanky recommends mentos...then fry and eat the cat."

Wednesday suspended 26 times replied: "Better yet mix some ex-lax into the fancy feast...then drop the cat off at a friends house"

Simply Open Minded replied: "Feed the cat the mentos and tell me the results lol"

Adrian Monk replied: "First warm the cat in the microwave"

Jonathan C replied: "Diet Pepsi, then when you drop in the mentos, you get the full effect"

the legend of the deep(Xway RAW) replied: "the will not drink the pepsi, tried it before"

Youngher Brother replied: "You are Evil !"

Lorna W replied: "You can't be serious! Cat must be a pseudonym for a person, right? No one would be that cruel to a sweet kitty."

Why dosent mountain dew work with mentos like coke does? instead of using pepsi for my scicence experiment, i decided to use mountain dew. of course, i barly got any explosion. so why dosent dew have a great affect like coke does? like pls.

Mike V replied: "It could be a difference in the carbonation levels of the two sodas. Coke is very carbonated, Mountain dew might be less carbonated. That, or you didn't use enough mentos, about 9 will do..."

casw1 replied: "did u use diet? it has to be diet soda."
